Services/Benefits

Member Services

TRBA provides its members with a number of services that help them effectively run their business. Routinely, TRBA members receive the award winning Tennessee Road Builder magazine, newsletters and bulletins, highway letting information and an award winning membership directory. In addition, the association conducts training programs, recognizes members for safe work sites, and holds a mid-year meeting and convention each year.

Protecting Contractors

Over the years, TRBA has actively worked to increase its awareness before the Tennessee General Assembly and its congressional delegation. TRBA’s active involvement on the state legislative scene has led to the passage of four gas tax increases since 1982. The last user fee increase was in 1989, when the gas tax was raised four cents to fund a $3.3 billion highway construction program over 15 years. The program was designed to bring jobs to rural communities and make all of Tennessee even more accessible to national and international markets.

It is the philosophy of TRBA that users should pay for safe and good highways. Therefore, Tennessee’s fuel taxes are earmarked for transportation construction. Fuel tax revenues for highway construction remain the most important legislative priority in the future.

In addition to funding issues, TRBA also aggressively works to pass legislation to increase fines and penalties for speeding in work zones and to reform of workers’ compensation laws among other issues.

On the federal level, TRBA is affiliated with the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) to protect the transportation construction industries interests and with the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) on aggregate issues. The TRBA Asphalt Division is a state affiliate of the National Asphalt Pavement Association NAPA.
